Sarri defiant after Chelsea thrashing

A defiant Maurizio Sarri refused to accept that Chelsea’s 6-0 mauling at Manchester City was a sign his style of football is not working.

The Blues, thrashed 4-0 at Bournemouth in their previous away game, were humiliated at the Etihad Stadium, where Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick.

However, head coach Sarri still has no intention of changing his philosophy.

Asked if the thrashing showed his style of play simply will not work in England, he said: “No, because today I didn’t see my football. So no, because at the beginning (of the season) it (his style of football) worked.

“So now we need only to understand the reason why at the moment it isn’t working.

“We need to understand. The reason is not easy. At the beginning we were playing better at home than away and now we are better away than at home.

“So something has changed. At the moment I am not able to see the reason.

“I have to work for this because my target is to play my football. It’s not to change (to another style of) football because at the moment we are playing another football.”

Sarri was also asked if he feared for his future as Blues boss.

“I don’t know. You have to ask the club. I don’t know,” he replied.

“I am worried about my team and I am worried about the performance. My job is always at risk.

“I think we started well. Then we conceded a goal after four minutes in a stupid way.

“At that moment we had only to stay in the match and we were not able to do that.”
