Torres ‘set for axe’

Fernando Torres faces the axe for tonight’s game against Manchester City despite scoring twice at the weekend, The Sun say.

Torres ended his five-month wait for a goal during Sunday’s FA Cup win against Leicester, with Chelsea’s interim boss Roberto Di Matteo declaring afterwards that he hoped the striker had turned a corner.

But Di Matteo is tipped to leave Torres on the bench at Eastlands and start with Didier Drogba.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail report that Chelsea have been told they have no chance of landing Jurgen Klopp, who has been touted as a possible new manager for the club.

Borussia Dortmund seem ready to reject any approach for their highly-rated coach.

And a number of papers pick up on Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore’s insistence that Chelsea’s John Terry and QPR’s Anton Ferdinand should shake hands when their teams meet at Stamford Bridge next month.

“It’s not a handshake that says everybody loves everybody else,” Scudamore said.

“It’s a handshake that says ‘Whatever c**p’s gone on before now and whatever c**p will go on after this game is over, for the next 90 minutes, let’s just play a game of football’.

“It’s nothing more symbolic than that, which is why, in our view, they should continue. Period.”
