Dyer ‘working exceptionally hard’ to return

Mark Hughes says Kieron Dyer is “working exceptionally hard” to try to rescue his career.

Dyer has been plagued by injuries in recent years and was stretchered off only four minutes in to his QPR debut on the opening day of the season after hurting his foot.

He has since been ruled out for the rest of the campaign and the club had the option to terminate his one-year deal at the start of January.

Former manager Neil Warnock was happy for the 33-year-old to see out his contract, but it looked like his successor Hughes might show Dyer the door when talks with his representatives were sought last month.

In the end Dyer remained at Loftus Road – for the time being at least – and Hughes has not ruled out handing him a lifeline if he can prove his fitness.

Hughes said: “At the moment it’s difficult to know when he’s going to come back and at what level, but he’s working exceptionally hard and we wish him well.

“If he gets anywhere near the level of performance we know he’s capable of, then he’s an outstanding player that we could hopefully add to the group.”
