Hazard could be made Chelsea captain, Telegraph say

A look at some of the recent newspaper stories involving Chelsea…

Eden Hazard has been outstanding this season.

Eden Hazard could be made Chelsea captain, according to the Daily Telegraph.

With Gary Cahill, who took over as captain from John Terry, having lost his place in the side, Cesar Azpilicueta has worn the armband this season.

Boss Maurizio Sarri has repeatedly said he is yet to make a final decision on who will be club captain.

The Telegraph say defender Azpilicueta hopes to be named as permanent skipper by Sarri this week but that the Italian could instead opt for Hazard.

The newspaper say there “has been a feeling within the club” that making Hazard captain might help persuade him to commit his long-term future to Chelsea and sign a new contract.

Sarri suggested last week that the issue was close to being resolved.

He said: “I want to speak with my club face to face before I tell you my decision. I think it’s right the club knows my decision before the journalists.

“It has been impossible in the last two or three weeks, but I think it will be possible next week.”

Terry ‘agrees return as Under-23 boss’

John Terry has agreed a return to Chelsea as manager of the club’s development side, The Sun on Sunday has reported.

The newspaper claimed the Blues legend has agreed an £800,000 deal to take control of the Under-23s once he has completed his coaching badges.

Former Chelsea captain Terry, 37, has been considering his options since leaving Aston Villa during the summer.

He recently backed out of a move to Spartak Moscow and has made no secret of his desire to enter coaching and management.

Sarri is said to be behind the move to bring Terry back to the Bridge.

Sarri recently said he would welcome Terry back but had been led to believe the ex-England defender wanted to continue playing.

The Sun on Sunday quoted a source as saying: “John has made no bones about the fact he’s keen to get into management and obviously Chelsea has always been the dream.

“He has been in talks with the boss for the past few weeks and has verbally agreed the deal.

“It will only come to fruition though once he has finished his badges.

“An as-yet undecided manager will take over in the interim.”

Chelsea continue to be linked with Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

The Wales international’s contract at the Emirates Stadium is due to expire next summer and talks over a new deal have reportedly broken down.

Chelsea have long been linked with a move for Ramsey amid much speculation over his future.

The Sunday Express  have nevertheless claimed an ‘exclusive’ in declaring that Chelsea want to sign him.

The newspaper said Manchester United are also keen on Ramsey and that Arsenal will look for £25m for him in January rather than lose him on a free transfer at the end of the season.
