Bhatia insists he has the final say at QPR

Amit Bhatia has insisted he will have the final say over decision-making following his recent appointment as QPR chairman.

West London Sport recently revealed that Bhatia was set to step up from the position of vice-chairman, with Ruben Gnanalingam and Tony Fernandes stepping down as co-chairmen.

In an interview for the club website, Bhatia spoke of his friendship with and respect for Gnanalingam and Fernandes, who will stay involved.

However, he added that the change was about more than switching titles.

He said: “For me being appointed chairman is much more than elevation of title, it’s a real change in responsibility and it’s a responsibility I take very seriously.

“There is no doubt that in the position I am in I have accepted this position knowing firmly that the final decision rests with me.

“But to have them to guide and advise me, for me to bounce ideas off, is an incredible resource from two people who I love dearly and I hope their involvement continues for a long time.”

Bhatia also said his ambitions were for QPR to “stay up this season and then build from there” – and made it clear that he is prepared to sanction the sale of players in order for the club to be sustainably run.

“Decisions that I make have to be, first and foremost, making sure that this club is sustainable for the long term,” he said.

“If that means that we have to sell some of our better players at the end every season, so be it.

“That’s the position we find ourselves in and it’s something we have to accept.”
