Smith: Blackburn goal should not have stood

Dean Smith bemoaned the state of the Ewood Park pitch and the decision to allow Blackburn’s goal to stand following Brentford’s 1-0 defeat.
The loss was the Bees’ first of the season and Smith felt they were hard done by.
He argued that the goal by on-loan Chelsea youngster Kasey Palmer should have been disallowed because of a foul in the build up.
He said: “Said (Benrahma) has stopped, probably in amazement that the referee hasn’t blown the whistle, and they break through and score.”
It was a decisive moment in game of few chances.
Smith added: “The defeat’s a tough one to take. I’m not sure they created much at all. We didn’t create an awful lot either.
“I don’t think the pitch was conducive for good football – they’ll probably put the horses out there later to graze, and it became a niggly game of football.
“It was very difficult to get a tempo in that game today. As I said, the pitch wasn’t great and I thought both defences were on top.
“They snuffed us out, we snuffed them out, and it probably didn’t make for a great viewing spectacle.”

Like what Smith is doing with Brentford but he has never been a gracious loser, rarely acknowledges if opposition has played better.

What can I say? Dean Smith- what a prat. The ref had a Brentford bias and was terrible…and to blame a three game old pitch? Get real.

Contrast Tony Mowbray’s post match comments with those mealy mouthed ones above from Dean Smith. Proper respect for Brentford as a footballing team and Dean Smith as a manager. Mowbray has class and decency ..and on today’s evidence is the better manager. He achieved more with less.

Can’t believe the comment about the pitch. Brentford are a good championship team and we rode our luck at times. What you couldn’t criticise was all the hardwort, commitment and organisation.

Agree with Smith. There was a foul in the lead up to the goal but things even themselves out over a season. We’ll take the 3 points.

Nothing wrong with the pitch Blackburn just had that never say die attitude and harassed Brentford for the whole ninety minutes they deserved their win and can thank goalkeeper Raya who looks a class act for keeping the Bee’s out.
