Cahill to be left out of World Cup squad – reports
Chelsea captain Gary Cahill is set to miss out on a place in England’s World Cup squad, according to reports.
Boss Gareth Southgate will on Wednesday name his 23-man squad for this summer’s tournament in Russia.
And he is tipped to leave out Cahill, who has struggled for form for club and country this season.
He was dropped from the side by Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, who recently restored him partly to try to boost Cahill’s chances of regaining his England place.
Conte said last month: “I think Gary is deserving to play – to play and then to have the chance to go and play in the World Cup.
“We are talking about an important player for Chelsea. I think we are talking about an important player for the national team. He has great experience.”
Meanwhile, Willian has been named in Brazil’s World Cup squad but his Chelsea team-mate David Luiz misses out, having struggled with a knee problem for much of the season.
