Bees boss Smith praises Maupay
Brentford manager Dean Smith was delighted to see Frenchman Neal Maupay get on the scoresheet in the 2-0 win at Birmingham on Wednesday.
Maupay, 21, joined the Bees in the summer from Saint-Etienne and has five goals in his first 18 appearances in England.
“I’m really pleased Neal got his goal,” Smith said after watching his side extend their unbeaten run to eight matches.
“He’s new to this country and the Championship and we had to throw him in when Lasse Vibe got injured and he went through a bit of a tough time.
“Now, when he comes on, he gives us a different option. He makes it stick into feet, uses his body well against centre-halves and has really good feet.”
Brentford’s victory at St. Andrew’s lifted them to 15th and Smith admitted they have now found a way of winning ugly.
“It wasn’t a vintage performance and was pretty scrappy. But while we were playing better football earlier in the season, we weren’t winning games like we are now,” he said.
