Pochettino hails players after stunning win at Wembley
Mauricio Pochettino hailed his players after Tottenham’s stunning victory over Real Madrid at Wembley.
A 3-1 win over the holders took Spurs through to the knockout stage of the Champions League in fine style.
Manager Pochettino declared: “Our performance tonight was fantastic and I am so happy for everyone connected with the club. It was important for us to get to the next round of the competition.
“This sort of win brings with it certain consequences, making us more visible, and it something everyone around Europe would have seen.
“We are big team, playing at Wembley in front of 80,000 people. We belong not only with the best in England but in Europe too.”
On a less positive note, Toby Alderweireld is a doubt for Tottenham’s next game, against Crystal Palace, after picking up a hamstring injury.
The centre-back pulled up in the first half after running almost the full length of the field and was replaced by Moussa Sissoko, with Eric Dier filling in at centre-back.
“To be ready for the weekend will be difficult, but we will assess him over the next few days,” said Pochettino.
