Villas-Boas is sure Chelsea will prevail
Andre Villas-Boas says he is confident his team will overcome Napoli and reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Tuesday’s first-leg loss in Naples increased the pressure on the Chelsea manager and extended the Blues’ winless run to five matches.
But Juan Mata’s goal in the 3-1 defeat means they have a fighting chance of progressing to the last eight – and Villas-Boas believes they will get the decisive victory they need in the return leg at Stamford Bridge.
“We are sure we can turn this result around at the Bridge, because of the amount of chances we had [in Naples],” Villas-Boas said.
“Being more clinical and more efficient in front of goal was the difference between the teams. They had an efficiency which we couldn’t find, and we paid a heavy price for the mistakes we made.
“But I’m confident. We created a lot of chances and if we do that in the return match, we’ll have every chance of going through.”
But Villas-Boas admitted that the expected absence of captain John Terry for up to six more weeks is a blow for Chelsea as they attempt to turn their fortunes around.
“John is a very important player to us and we are hoping he will be out for less than six weeks,” he said.
