Can Blues and QPR bounce back?

An extraordinary week; no England manager, no England captain yet there is renewed optimism that Euro 2012 could just be our year.

The former Chelsea boss has expressed a desire to return to England sooner rather than later and Spurs, on the face of it, appears an ideal fit but would Daniel Levy tolerate the excess baggage that comes with the ‘Special One?’

Chelsea travel to Goodison on Saturday having let slip a 3-0 lead against United last weekend and are 13/10 to do the double over the Merseysiders (12/5) having won the reverse fixture 3-1 at the Bridge.

The Toffees showed against Manchester City recently that they are difficult to overcome at home and did, indeed, beat Chelsea on the last day of last season but they are missing key personnel in Jagielka, Osman and Rodwell and 13/10 is a fair price.

Daniel Sturridge has a good record against Everton (scored at Reebok last term for Bolton) and is 11/2 to net the opener with Fernando Torres 13/2. The Spaniard also had a decent record against them for Liverpool and will be desperate for that goal which could resurrect a very poor season.

Everything was going smoothly for Rangers after 30 minutes at Loftus Road last weekend, and one couldn’t blame Mark Hughes for feeling a bit smug on the touchline as his new strikers combined beautifully for the opener against Wolves.

By the end of the game, however, Rangers were back in trouble (13/8 to be relegated) and they face a very tricky game at Ewood Park at the weekend minus expensive signing Djibril Cisse, who was red-carded for examining the tonsils of Wolves defender Roger Johnson.

Rovers are 11/8 to possibly leapfrog the Hoops and with Bolton meeting Wigan at the Reebok, and the Black Country derby between Wolves and WBA, the bottom six are playing each other in what could be a pivotal weekend at the foot of the table.

Bobby Zamora is 13/2 to score the opener in Lancashire and 7/4 at any time.

The Premier League is littered with sides supposedly ‘too good to go down’ and perhaps it is time for some of Rangers’ more senior players to show their mettle although the R’s do play three of their next four games at Loftus Road before a difficult looking end to the campaign.

Fulham entertain Stoke at Craven Cottage looking for revenge for their 2-0 defeat at the Britannia earlier in the season and ought to have enough for a limited Potters’ side who will be without Robert Huth, who was red-carded in the snow against Sunderland last weekend.

The Cottagers are even-money to get all three points with Stoke 3s and the draw at 12/5.

American Clint Dempsey remains the main goalscoring threat and his 5/1 quote to score first is realistic.
