Smith explains Canos substitution after Bees draw
Brentford boss Dean Smith admitted he was unsure about taking Sergi Canos off when the forward was threatening to win the game at Ipswich.
Canos had three good chances to score a late winner in the 1-1 draw at Portman Road but was replaced by Florian Jozefzoon moments after his best chance was cleared off the line.
“I was to-ing and fro-ing whether to bring him off but I’d got Flo ready and I just thought he might give them something a little bit different,” Smith explained.
“He [Canos] just looked tired a couple of minutes before, and then he went through and had the chance, so I decided to delay it a couple of minutes, then he went through again.
“He’s only a young lad and he’s finding his feet. He’s not played a lot of football this year, and what I’ve got with him and Flo is a bit of pace that troubles teams.”
Nico Yennaris scored the equaliser after Emyr Huws capitalised on poor Bees defending to take the lead.
“I can nit-pick with our players and say we should have been tighter and stopped the cross,” Smith said.
“It was a scrappy game and they edged the first half but in the second I thought we were the better team and looked the most likely team to win the game.”
