Our west London Championship team of the week
Brentford are celebrating their first win at QPR for 52 years, while Fulham enjoyed a great weekend as well, thrashing Huddersfield 5-0 at Craven Cottage.
Here’s our west London Championship team of the week:
Dan Bentley (Brentford)
Alex Smithies was the only QPR player to emerge with any credit from their 2-0 defeat, but Bentley was excellent again. Calm and composed, the Bees keeper did not put a foot wrong.
Maxime Colin (Brentford)
Colin is in terrific form at the moment and as well as being defensively solid, he is offering more going forward. That was certainly the case at Loftus Road, where he spent much of the match in the final third of the pitch. His right-sided partnership with Josh Clarke tore Rangers to shreds.
Harlee Dean (Brentford)
The Brentford captain was superb, winning countless headers and challenges. On the one occasion Idrissa Sylla found some space the R’s striker was denied by a goal-line clearance from John Egan, who was also outstanding for the Bees.
Tomas Kalas (Fulham)
The on-loan Chelsea defender had a fine game at the heart of the Fulham defence. He was strong in the air and gave Huddersfield striker Nahki Wells nothing.
Scott Malone (Fulham)
Restored to the Fulham side and responded with a fine display. He was defensively solid and always eager to get forward.
Josh Clarke (Brentford)
Tom Cairney was excellent for Fulham, but Clarke can’t be overlooked after a brilliant performance for Brentford at QPR. He scored their first goal and destroyed left-back Jack Robinson with his pace, particularly in the first half.
Ryan Woods (Brentford)
Ran the midfield – as has become the norm for him – against Rangers. An absolutely terrific display.
Romaine Sawyers (Brentford)
Has had his detractors since his move from Walsall but scored his first goal for Brentford and put in a fine performance on a memorable night for his club.
Lucas Piazon (Fulham)
Another Chelsea youngster catching the eye on loan at Fulham. Tends to drift in and out of games but when in full flow he has obvious ability and potential. He has an end product too – his goal against Huddersfield took his tally for the season to three and he created a number of other openings.
Sone Aluko (Fulham)
Brilliant for the Whites, particularly during a second-half spell when he was unstoppable.
Chris Martin (Fulham)
Scott Hogan had a frustrating time in front of goal for Brentford although his overall showing was very good. Martin, on the other hand, has had no problems finding the net of late – his brace on Saturday made it four goals in as many matches for the on-loan striker.
