Hiddink: It wouldn’t be fair to play youngsters against Sunderland

Guus Hiddink says he does not plan to make major changes for Chelsea’s game against relegation-threatened Sunderland on Saturday.

The Blues interim boss named an experienced line-up for Monday’s clash with Tottenham, having involved youngsters in previous matches.

And he intends to field a similarly experienced side against a Sunderland team involved in a battle against the drop with Norwich and local rivals Newcastle.

Hiddink explained: “Given the situation, it wouldn’t be fair of us to have a serious approach for the Spurs game and not have a serious approach for the other games.

“I am not going to change a lot in the team. Before, I made some changes with academy players, but it would not be fair to do this again to the other teams in the last games.”

Hiddink also insisted Thibaut Courtois was happy to stay at Chelsea despite reports the keeper would look to leave because of a fall-out with coach Christophe Lollichon.
