QPR v Derby player ratings

QPR are nine points away from the play-off places after beating Derby. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the 2-0 win at Loftus Road.

Alex Smithies: 8
Another very tidy display from the in-form keeper, who played a key part in Rangers’ opening goal with his throw out to the left flank. Smithies also produced a fine second-half save to keep out a low shot from Darren Bent as Derby pressed for an equaliser.

Nedum Onuoha: 7
Never totally convincing at right-back, but stuck to the task and played his part in a very good defensive performance by the R’s.

Gabriele Angella: 8
Much improved since his recent return to the side and this was another impressive performance, capped by his goal – his first for the club.

Clint Hill: 8
A rousing, heroic display from the 37-year-old Rangers stalwart, who answered the call yet again. Despite his own injury problem he was terrific at the back in the absence of the sidelined Grant Hall.

James Perch: 8
Has been enjoying a run of good form at left-back and this was another impressive showing. As well as setting up QPR’s first goal with his left-wing cross, he was defensively sound – not least when winning a crucial header at the far post to prevent Johnny Russell’s second-half cross reaching Tom Ince.

Karl Henry: 7
Much maligned but nevertheless effective in the defensive midfield role. Kept things simple and competed well throughout.

Alejandro Faurlin: 7
A composed display on his return to the side, particularly during a first-half spell in which Rangers were on top.

Matt Phillips: 7
Still short of his best, but he contributed to a fine Rangers performance. He set up the second goal with a free-kick, almost scored from a cross by Junior Hoilett, and showed great willingness to track back and help out defensively.

Tjaronn Chery: 8
Scored with a fabulous volley – his third goal in five matches. The Dutchman is an expert at picking up space and dragging defenders out of position as well as having obvious class and the ability to strike a ball well.

Junior Hoilett: 8
Another lively performance. Hoilett was always a threat going forward and worked hard defensively too.

Sebastian Polter: 7
Did well as both Rangers’ attacking focal point and first defender, with his pressing of the opposition defence again having a major impact on the game. He was relentless, never letting Derby’s centre-backs settle. And his link-up play was good too.
