Sheffield Wednesday 1 QPR 1

Atdhe Nuhiu’s equaliser meant QPR had to settle for a point after Daniel Tozser had put them ahead with his first goal for the club.

Alex Smithies saved Nuhiu’s penalty before Tozser fired home from near the edge of the area after Sheffield Wednesday had failed to clear Matt Phillips’ left-wing cross.

But Nuhiu redeemed himself on 63 minutes by getting in between two defenders to head Daniel Pudil’s cross into the bottom corner of the net.

Smithies had dived to his left to keep out Nuhiu’s spot-kick after Nedum Onuoha was adjudged to have fouled Gary Hooper a couple of minutes into the second half.

Rangers, who have won only just two of their 15 matches under manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, took the lead against the run of play 10 minutes later.

Hasselbaink’s side had been on the back foot during a first half in which Smithies produced a fine save to deny Nuhiu after the Wednesday target man had got through on goal, and Kieran Lee and Wallace also went close for the Owls.

The hosts responded quickly after going behind in the second half and after Pudil’s left-wing cross led to them equalising, another delivery from the same flank, this time by Ross Wallace, gave Lucas João the chance to put them ahead, but the Portuguese headed wide.

Phillips had a late opportunity to restore QPR’s lead but was unable to hit the target after being set up by substitute Sebastian Polter.

And the excellent Smithies pulled off another fine save to deny Lee, who was found unmarked by Hooper’s cross, before João missed a glorious chance when he headed straight at the Rangers keeper in injury time.
