Redknapp wants to sign Keane on loan
QPR boss Harry Redknapp wants to sign Robbie Keane on loan.
The 32-year-old striker, currently with LA Galaxy, is expected to make another temporary move back to England now the MLS season has finished.
Last season he scored three goals in six league appearances during a loan spell with Aston Villa.
And Redknapp believes the Irishman, who played under him at Tottenham, could make a similar impact at Loftus Road.
Struggling Rangers are short of attacking options as Bobby Zamora is unavailable and Andrew Johnson’s season has been ended by a knee injury.
“Robbie had a good season, scored goals and did well,” said Redknapp.
“He’s a good pro and he would be the ideal type to have around for sure because he would give us something.”
Redknapp also wants to bring in at least one centre-back, with the club planning to try again for Michael Dawson and Chris Samba.
Dawson, who was also with Redknapp at Tottenham, opted to stay at Spurs rather than move to west London in the summer.
Redknapp’s predecessor Mark Hughes was hopeful of persuading Dawson to make the switch in January and was also planning another approach for Samba.
Congo defender Samba, 28, played under Hughes at Blackburn, while Redknapp expressed an interest in signing him while in charge at Spurs.
After being pursued by Hughes, Samba opted to join Anzhi Makhachkala but is unsettled and believed to be open to the idea of a return to England.
The same applies to Nicolas Anelka, whose future at Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua is unclear.
Redknapp would be interested in signing Anelka if he becomes available and is currently giving a trial to the French striker’s former Chelsea team-mate Tal Ben Haim.
