Redknapp hints at new QPR deal for Faurlin
Harry Redknapp has indicated that Alejandro Faurlin may be given a new deal by QPR.
Another knee injury has ruled the popular midfielder out for the rest of the season and his current contract expires next summer.
That has raised questions over Faurlin’s future, but manager Redknapp insists he will be given the chance to rebuild his career at Loftus Road.
Redknapp said: “I’d have to speak to the owners, but you wouldn’t bomb a player out because he’s injured. That’s not something that you’d do.
“You don’t cast him to one side without a contract because he’s not fit. The people who own this club wouldn’t do that – not a chance.”
Faurlin was stretchered off during the recent home win against Derby after suffering cruciate ligament damage for the second time in less than two years.
It is a horrible setback for the 27-year-old Argentine, who was beginning to re-establish himself in the first team following his previous long-term problem.
Prior to his new injury, Faurlin made it clear he wanted to sign a new contract at Rangers rather than keep his options open.
“He’s a smashing lad and it’s a real shame for him,” Redknapp added.
“He got back in the team and was playing very well. He was excellent at Wigan and again against Derby.
“I’m sure Ale’s determined enough to come back. I’m sure he’ll come back and get his career back on track again.”
