Mourinho hails ‘fantastic’ Blues as Liverpool boss bemoans penalty decision
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho hailed his players after their 2-1 victory against Liverpool at Anfield.
The Premier League leaders came from behind, with Gary Cahill equalising before Diego Costa struck in the second half – his 10th goal of the season – to secure a deserved win.
“It was a fantastic performance. The players as individuals all had a great performance and as team they were in control,” Mourinho told BT Sport.
“One point at Anfield, most teams would accept that as a great result. This team did not accept that and I am really, really pleased.
“I was on the bench in the second half and for me it did not look the normal pressure you feel at Anfield, because my team is fantastic.
“I thought Liverpool tried everything, they did well, but Chelsea was the best team.”
He added: “This is a new team, a new era for Chelsea. We are obviously happy with the squad and the quality of football but no team gets into history without trophies and, at the moment, this team has no trophies.”
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, meanwhile, was disappointed after his team were denied a late penalty despite what looked like a handball by Gary Cahill.
Rodgers said: “We worked so hard in the game but we need those decisions that are obvious, it was a clear, clear penalty.
“I was very disappointed, because the players gave everything in the game. We deserved at least a point for sure.
“You need that wee bit of luck going for you and it isn’t at the moment.”
More reaction from Anfield to follow later.
