Brentford are to hire a new chief scout in a bid to improve their recruitment process.

The club have received a large number of applications for the role, which will include part of co-sporting director Phil Giles’ current remit.

The incoming chief scout will be responsible for assessing current procedures and discuss and implement potential changes to the Bees’ current network.

At the moment the pool is made up of Giles, co-sporting director Rasmus Ankersen, club owner Matthew Benham, former Bees manager Andy Scott and a number of other advisers.

The deadline for applications was Friday and the club are hoping to make an appointment before the end of the season. They are also advertising for a north of England scout.

Brentford failed to sign any new players in the January transfer window and sold key men James Tarkowski and Toumani Diagouraga.

Head coach Dean Smith signed a striker in the loan window, Leandro Rodriguez from Everton, but also wanted a winger and a holding midfielder, which he did not get.
